Safe Buying Tips
JamDeal is built on the assumption that honest people come to the site to genuinely buy or sell items.
However there are some safeguards that you can use to ensure a good trade:
 |
1. Keep it local |
 |
As a rule, do not do business with people outside of Jamaica.
There are too many ways for things to go wrong (shipping, payment, item not as described, phony sellers).
 |
2. Know your trading partner |
 |
A feedback rating is available for every member on JamDeal. This will show you feedback comments left by others and
will give you a good sense of the person or business you are
dealing with.
Before you bid on an item, you can read the seller's feedback profile by clicking on the number next to their User ID. Sellers may also want to view the feedback profiles of bidders to see how reliable they've been in the past.
 |
3. Know what you are buying |
 |
Read the item description carefully and any answers to questions.
Ask your own questions and make sure the seller answers them.
Many unanswered questions is a bad sign.
Be very careful of sellers who try to bypass the site.
Transactions conducted outside of JamDeal are harder to resolve if they go wrong.
Know the postage costs. Postage usually costs extra and will vary based your distance from the seller.
Make sure you understand the total costs before bidding.
If the seller will let you pick up, we recommend you do that.
 |
4. Pay safely |
 |
Keep all payment information and emails exchanged with the seller.
This will help us locate the seller should anything go wrong.
Never pay for goods with Western Union or any other instant cash transfers as they cannot be traced.
PayPal is an option, however their buyer protection program does not extend to Jamaica.
